They're spooky robots basically. A horror videogame called Five Nights at Freddy's came out several years ago and made them really popular. Lots of kids love to draw them. I love to teach how to draw animatronics because their designs are spooky and fun, and PERFECT for practicing one of the most important drawing skills there is--3D forms, which transfers to drawing all subject matter. Animatronics are cartoony, creepy, so fun to draw, and packed with learning opportunities. 

Hardly any! I like to keep it simple and focus on the skills that matter, not the fancy art supplies.

All you need for class is:

• a device with an internet connection and Zoom downloaded
• paper
• pencil
• eraser
• to add finishing touches after class, I recommend outlining with a black pen or marker and coloring with your preferred coloring utensils.

When you sign up, you will immediately get instructions on how to log in to the Class Portal, which has your Zoom Link to class, and the Private Facebook Group for Parents. On the day of class, you'll just log into Zoom and draw along with us. You can interact in the chat, raise your hand if you would like to be called on as a volunteer, turn your video on, or just draw in silence with it off if that helps you focus.

Brand new artists below the age of 7 who are still primarily drawing with stick figures will find this too advanced. Besides that, both beginner and advanced students will benefit. I'll be teaching both fundamental techniques and little known secrets for drawing, from posing to 3d forms. We will also be addressing tips for overcoming perfectionism and our inner critic so everyone will walk away with helpful tips to grow in confidence and make their art their own.

I teach how to draw almost everything in my Kids Cartoon Academy Membership, but in this Monster Animatronics Workshop, I'll be showing kids how to draw a base Five Nights at Freddy's style animatronic and show them how to customize it into their own. I and my members do this for endless character designs to make so many cool and creepy characters. You will also learn:

If they are 15 or older, they might not enjoy the class as much when it's filled with younger students.

If they are younger than 7, then they might be scared of the monsters we draw, and we might draw too fast for them.

That's why I recommend ages 7-14.

With that said, we've had 15-year-olds join, and even 6-year-olds. As long as they are under the age of 18, they are welcome to join us.

The parents and guardians of the enrolled kids are DEFINITELY encouraged to join us and draw along with their child! Parent after parent reports how they are thrilled with the unique bonding time and are surprised at how much fun they had themselves!
