A spooky trick-or-treat scene where you're the hero
Halloween might be over November 1st, but the fun doesn't have to be.
On Sunday, November 1, Ms. Maggie and I are throwing a costume party where everybody draws.
Together, we'll draw a spooky trick-or-treat scene where you're the hero, taking down your worst creative fears.
It's the perfect blend of guided drawing and creative freedom. We'll lead you step by step. Then you'll add your own personalized details to make it truly yours.
Come in costume. Bring the candy.
Getting better at art shouldn't be scary
Some kids stop drawing because it doesn't look "right."
Others get frustrated and give up.
Some get scolded for doodling in the margins.
Some compare their art to what they see on YouTube.
Some hear "But your line's not straight," "It doesn't look like the teacher's," or "Drawing is for little kids."
And some have a voice in their own head whispering "Just give up already."
We've watched it happen again and again.
So this workshop is about more than a fun Halloween drawing. It's about the confidence mindset it takes to be a real artist. What to do when a line goes wrong. How to keep going when it doesn't look perfect. How to enjoy the drawing, not just the result.
A wonky line? It might become part of the costume. A funny expression? Even better.
Your child leaves with a finished piece and proof that a mistake doesn't mean stop.
Grown-ups have fears too, so pull up a chair. One workshop, one Zoom link, however many people are at your table.
What your kid will learn
Ms. Maggie and Mr. Grissom will teach some of the techniques that have helped our 4,000+ members get awesome results.
for drawing any pose
for building a drawing from the ground up, even if you're a beginner
that make a scene pop
including what to do with mistakes
Basic tips on light, shadow, and color that work with any coloring tools. Ms. Maggie colors with colored pencils. Mr. Grissom colors with alcohol markers. We follow the same principles, so bring whatever you have.
- Your kid finishes a one-of-a-kind Halloween piece starring themselves.
- They learn methods they can use on anything they draw next.
- They get a first taste of color theory they can use with any coloring tools.
- They learn what to do when a drawing doesn't go to plan.
Meet Ms. Maggie and Mr. Grissom

I taught in schools around the world for over 15 years before founding Kids Cartoon Academy in 2022. I stopped drawing in middle school and didn't make art for twenty years, so I know what it's like to lose your creative spirit. Helping kids keep theirs is what we do here.

Ms. Maggie is a Kids Cartoon Academy artist and animator, and a freelance illustrator, who has taught hundreds of students. She studied Film & Animation at Rochester Institute of Technology and attended the Disney College Program. She's known for her chill, encouraging teaching style that helps kids feel comfortable and have fun drawing.

- Pencil
- Eraser
- Paper
- Your favorite coloring materials. Recommended: colored pencils or alcohol markers
Ms. Maggie will use colored pencils and Mr. Grissom will use alcohol markers, but the color tips we share work with any coloring tools.
What ages is this for?
It's a family workshop, so all ages are welcome. Kids, grown-ups, and siblings can all draw at the same table. Younger artists have more fun with a grown-up drawing alongside them.
Is it scary?
Spooky, not scary. It's Halloween fun for the whole family.
What if we can't make it live?
You still get everything. The replay lands in your Library right after the workshop, and you can watch it through Sunday, November 8. Pause it, rewind it, do it over two afternoons instead of one. There's no prize for finishing first.
Do we need to be on camera?
Not at all. Plenty of families keep the camera off and just draw. Kids who want to show their work (or their costume) can, and we love it when they do, but nobody has to.
What supplies do we need?
A pencil, an eraser, paper, and your favorite coloring materials. We recommend colored pencils or alcohol markers. No special supplies to buy.
I'm already a Kids Cartoon Academy member. Do I need to buy this?
No. It's already included in your membership. Check your Members Portal for your free registration link instead of paying here.
How do we get the Zoom link?
The moment you enroll, it's waiting right at the top of this workshop in your Library. Register with Zoom once and it covers everyone at your table.
