I use research-backed methods honed by years of personal experience in classrooms. Students not only gain art skills from light and shadow to perspective and storytelling, but also a growth mindset and creative problem solving. My methods primarily focus on three learning principles:
Engagement
We draw and reference cartoons that children love in order to prime them for learning. I also optimize the lessons for student choice, so that their ownership and involvement creates a deeper investment. I help students get "quick wins" early on so they feel confident from the beginning and excited to tackle bigger challenges. When they see themselves succeed early, they are more willing to take risks and push themselves when growing as an artist gets harder.
Targeted Skill Instruction
The most effective way for someone to grow in confidence is for them to see progress in their skills.
I introduce new skills over time and constantly reinforce previous techniques to ensure repeated practice and eventual mastery.
100+ hours of recorded on-demand lessons allow students to pursue their own unique learning adventures, from anime to monsters to cute cartoons and more. That way they can develop their skills while having fun, drawing the things they love.
Belonging
When students know they belong, they are more likely to feel comfortable taking risks, trying new things, sharing their art with others, and developing courage and confidence. That's why I've developed the Community for Artists--the highlight of the program for many. It provides a place for our children and their families to to truly belong.
Students are constantly sharing their art, encouraging each other, receiving personalized feedback on their work, and more. All in a private, safe, and moderated online community (and even available in an app!)
